The pyknogram is an interesting way to visualise spoken language. From left to right is time, and the sound at every point in time is deconstructed to see what frequencies it is composed of. [E.g. components of low frequency appear as bands near the bottom, and vowel sounds are made up of several characteristically spaced bands.] This pyknogram is made from 20 individual plots, each has a grey line at its centre and a coloured spread which represents a frequency estimate.
